Victory at Eastridge

Nicky Morris wins the Sport Category at Round 6 of the Midlands XC Series (Eastridge, Shropshire) on his Torus Ti29er. The perfect start saw him take the lead into the single track climb and, showing some good form following the Sudety Stage Race, he completed the first lap with a couple of minutes lead. Despite tasting the dirt on lap 2, Nicky rode well to take the victory and his first win of the year! Read the race report here.

Torus Ti29 Completes IronBike 2012 - the Hardest MTB Race in the World

21st-28th July, 2012    MTB Stage Race
Limone Piemonte - Sauze D'oulx, Italy.  See the website: IronBike

Clee Cycles Andy Jones completed IronBike riding the latest Torus Ti29 bike.  IronBike is the hardest mtb race in the world - probably - and it tested man and machine to the max.  With a total of 26,000m of climbing over 700km  during 7 days, with plenty at altitude the race is seriously hard!  Not just the amount of climbing - the steep, technical descents were just as demanding - and a real test for the Ti frame.  The bike was an excellent choice for such an arduous endurance event adding that extra bit of comfort that becomes necessary when in the saddle for up to 12hrs a day. 110 riders started the race, only 40 finished!

Torus Wins at Bontrager Twentyfour-12

7-8th July, 2012.
24/12 hr race.
Newham Park, Plymouth, Devon.
See the website: Twentyfour-12

Clee Cycles rider Ben Jones, along with race partner Dave Winter, won the Men's 12 Hour Pairs race at Bontrager Twentyfour-12, riding his Torus Ti 29er.

Despite the wet conditions, the Clee pair finished a lap clear of the opposition, completing 15 laps in a time of 13:06:17.

Ben said "it was wet and tough going out there, but the bike performed faultlessly.  I was riding the sliding dropout version, which helped.  I could move the rear wheel back to increase the clearance between the tyre and seat tube. This stopped the crud building up around the front mech and kept the wheels spinning".

Torus at the Rally Di Sardegna 2012

10-16 June 2012
Trans-Sardinia MTB Stage Race
Arzana - Santa Maria Naveresse, Sardinia
see the website www.rallydisardegnabike.it

Andy and Ben Jones, from the Clee Cycles Race Team, equiped with their Torus 29ers, competed in the Rally Di Sardegna (Sardinia) stage race in June.

The Race featured a prologue - a showpeice race around the streets of Aranza - and six stages across the rugged and mountainous Sardinian countryside. The Stages combined transition sections (with time limits) and special (timed) sections.

The days were all hard, some very hard. The timed sections were over 3 hrs long. The trails were exceptional, but brutal at times! There was a lot of climbing, and it was hot! The cut off times of 7hrs seemed easy - but were not always beat!

  • Stage 1: 56 km long and 1910 m of climbing, including a special stage 49 km long with 1650 m of climbing
  • Stage 2: 111 km long and 3590 m of climbing, including a 42 km special stage, 1690 m of climbing and the highest mountain in Sardinia at 1850 m
  • Stage 3: 76 km long and 2390 m of climbing, with a 29 km special stage with 830 m of climbing
  • Stage 4: 55 km long and 1690 m of climbing, including a 31 km special stage with 915 m of climbing
  • Stage 5: 78 km long and 1965 m of climbing, including a 58 km special stage 4with 1440 m of climbing. The stage descended nearly 1000 m, but was anything easy!
  • Stage 6: 41 km long and 1090 m of climbing, including a 16 km special stage with 620 m of climbing

Andy Jones, on his Torus Ti 29er 1x10, rode strongly throughout the week, leading the over-40 category for the majoritory of the race, but eventually had to settle for 2nd place and 7th in the general classification.

Ben Jones said "The Torus 29er was the perfect bike for this event. The 29" wheels rolled easily over the dry but very rocky terrain, and the bike was light enough to make all the climbing a bit easier on the legs. It was also solid; we didn't have any mechanicals to deal with all week, so we could relax in our free time. Really impressed!"
